I can trace my interest in orthopedic surgery back to middle school shop class, where I loved to build things – as well as put broken things back together again.
As an orthopedic PA, I enjoy seeing positive patient outcomes. Watching someone who has had an injury and thinks it is a life-altering event get back onto their bike or the hiking trail and say, “I’m going to move on from this and live my life fully again,” is hugely satisfying.
I’m the first college graduate in my immediate family, and during my last term of my undergraduate year, I was fortunate to complete an externship at an orthopedic office. There, I saw the versatility orthopedic PAs enjoyed in their field, which was enticing for me because I enjoy treating different conditions and doing different tasks throughout my day. My orthopedic interests include total joint replacement (hip and knee); orthopedic trauma and fracture; post-operative wound care; and joint and soft tissue injections.
My patients would say I approach their care in a direct and to-the-point manner. I’m honest about their condition, treatment options, and the post-operative or post-injury process. Patient education prior to surgery and after injury is very important to me, so patients understand their immediate limitations and how to best optimize their outcomes.
When I’m not at work, I love to be outside with my husband. We enjoy cycling, hiking, wake surfing, target-shooting and wine tasting – and we love college football.
